Frequently Asked Questions

Are openings available?

We have limited enrollment available for the 2020-2021 school year.

What is the school calendar?

Our school year includes 7 sessions that run from September - June. Sessions last 3-6 weeks and are followed by 1-2 weeks off for families.

Are meals provided?

Meals and snacks are not provided. A refrigerator and microwave are available for meals and snacks brought from home.

What is your tuition?
  • $7500 annually
  • $200 registration fee
Do you have scholarships or financial aid?

We have limited financial aid opportunities that may be awarded on a case by case basis.

What ages do you serve?

We do not separate based on grade. We have multi-age studios designed to create true communities among our learners.

  • Discovery Cove
(non-independent readers OR those not yet ready for online Core Skills)
  • Explorer Studio (generally 7-11 yrs old)
  • Catalyst Studio (generally 10-14 yr olds)
  • Launchpad (generally 15-18 yr olds)
What do you require of parents?

Our parents agree to abide by a contract in which they commit to be lifelong learners and to support their children on their Hero's Journeys. The biggest challenge for parents is to allow their children to face and overcome their obstacles and failures, like any good Hero. We are a safe place for children to "fail forward" and learn the valuable and necessary skills of conflict resolution, self-advocacy, responsibility, humility, and grit.

Are you a religious school?

We are not a religious school. We are a safe community for learners to explore faith as part of their and others' Hero's Journeys.

Is Lighthouse International a Montessori school?

We respect and incorporate Maria Montessori’s philosophy, however, we are not a Montessori school. We also utilize the latest in adaptive learning technology, hands-on projects, self-governance, and the Socratic Method with an emphasis on character development through the narrative of the Hero's journey.

How is progress measured at Lighthouse International?

Smart Goals are set and tracked by session, week, and day. The Discovery Cove uses SeeSaw to assemble portfolios of their best work and securely send picture/video evidence of learning to their parents. The Explorer Studio uses both paper portfolios and Google for Education apps to record their badge and quest progress. All learners participate in public exhibitions at the end of every session.

Is Lighthouse International accredited?

We are accredited by the International Association of Learner-Driven Schools.

Do you serve special needs children?

We are not trained nor staffed to serve children with serious learning disabilities, special needs, or who require specialized attention due to behavioral/emotional challenges. Some children with ADHD, Dyslexia, or on the Autism Spectrum do very well in an Acton environment. These learners will be considered on a trial basis to give us the chance to observe the child's ability to work alone, with a group, participate in discussions, and respect the safety and well-being of all learners in our studio. At the end of this trial, we will determine if Lighthouse International is indeed the be the best educational fit for the child.
